Hotter is Better
When it comes to women in movies and T.V shows they are always played to reach out to men. Many times the women have qualities and stories that women can relate too. It may seem that women are looked at as equal roles in movies but most successful movies always have the men being the top actor. In the successful T.V series "Charlies Angels" the girls have jobs and roles that are typically assigned to men. At the same time the girls are made to be looked at as sex objects. This allows the women to look past those little details that the men are looking for. Sex is the main thing that will get a man attention and women being strong an independent captures the women audience. Movies or shows that can do both of these simultaneously do well in the media. A women who is not typically considered attractive may have a great job and independent but men will not want to watch the movie as much as if she had all the same quality's but attractive. It may not be the right way to make movie and the actress may not be the best for the role but you cannot expect both audiences to be viewers. Chick flick movies are directly targeted to females and they can get always with having less attractive female actresses. But most producers will want to target as many audience members as possible. Most of the time I have realized that a secondary character if female is almost always very attractive to compliment the males action as a reward. Everything i have said i feel can be applied in the opposite corner. Men that are considered attractive get many roles unless the character is supposed to be bad looking to make the characters vibe. I feel that is weird that people like to watch the proposed "perfect" person. It doesn't make the movie very realistic to me.

It's weird how that works. Women are put in roles that make them seem strong by taking on the role of a man. In the same sense they are seen as sex objects. So, what would be the point of taking on the role of men if your just going to demorilize yourself by showing off everything? This show was a ticket to getting the male audiences interested and it worked. This show is a prime example of "Sex Sells"
ReplyDeleteI agree, there is a unrealistic beauty to television, and movies. Our society is obsessed with perfection, and trying to achieve it. I do not believe that many people would consider to watch a show where the actors were just average Joe's or average Jane's. In my opinion television and movies like to make us feel inferior to these actors so that we work harder to get what they have like the perfect body or good looks.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think that the whole reaching out to male and female audiences all within one show is a very genius marketing tool but I am disappointed by the fact that they sexually objectify women to do this. Are men really that sex obsessed?
From what i can conclude, women are suppose to be sexy, Weakenns around men, and ver high maintnance. When we see them in action films, there are completly opposite. In order for the directors, they have to give women traits of men like attributes. Such as fighting guys, saving the world from the bad guys and acting tough. We can see this trend develop and progress into the new generation.
